Presenter:

Joseph Arvidson is Executive Director of The Paragon Group, LLC. The Paragon Group strives to promote and advance evidence-based practices in the arena of criminal justice.  Their scope of services include speaking engagements, as well as training and consulting as to RNR and desistance-based models.  Mr. Arvidson’s training and consulting clientele have ranged from Federal Probation to local for profit and non-profit agencies, as well as international training and consulting as to Core Correctional Skills and Prison Leadership training.  Mr. Arvidson is the founder of The Criminologist Media Group, serving as producer and host of The Criminologists podcast.

Mr. Arvidson has been an adjunct faculty member at Concordia University and Metropolitan State University since 2000, where he teaches a number of graduate and undergraduate level Criminal Justice courses. He currently serves on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for Concordia University. He is a past board member for Volunteers in Corrections.  Mr. Arvidson secured his BA and MS degrees in Criminal Justice Studies from Saint Cloud State University. He has also secured a Graduate Certificate from Metropolitan State University in discipline of Project Management.  He has a second Graduate Certificate from Concordia University in the study of Trauma, Resilience and Self-Care Strategies.

Joseph is certified to train and facilitate a wide range of core correctional skills, including Motivational Interviewing, and several cognitive based interventions and programs. He specializes in correctional assessments. These include two desistance related scales, the Dynamic Risk Assessment for Offender Reentry (DRAOR), and the Structured Dynamic Assessment for Case Management (SDAC-21). He is also a Master Trainer of the Level of Service Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI).

As the co-creators of the TIDES Supervision model Nicole and Joseph are thrilled to share this innovative approach with professionals seeking to support justice impacted and marginalized individuals. The creation of the TIDES Supervision model with its fusion for the transformative theories of trauma informed care and desistance and an unwavering commitment to translate these theories into actionable, practical tools is a testament to their steadfast belief in the power of change and the potential for healing and transformation inherent in every individual.

IPCSA Policy Regarding Virtual, COPE Approved Trainings

To receive training credit for virtual, COPE approved IPCSA sponsored trainings, each participant’s display name must contain their first name, last name and county of employment. 

In those rare occasions where individual display names are not possible due to lack of equipment or department resources, multiple participants may use a single computer; however, a supervisor/CMO/Director must email association1969@ipcsa.org at least 48 hours PRIOR to the start of the training to provide a list of those individuals who will be on camera.   The list shall contain the following information for each participant:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • County of Employment
