Presenter: J. Andy Greer, Senior Professional Relations Manager, Gateway Foundation
Andy Greer first began his training in social services as a community educator and secondary victim crisis worker with what is now known as the Survivor Empowerment Center in 1995. Later that year he began working with adolescents in the criminal justice system as an intern/practicum student at IYC-Harrisburg. In 1996 he began working at the Gateway Foundation in Carbondale. Over the next 17 years he worked as a counselor on the residential units, an adult outpatient counselor, community outreach coordinator, admissions counselor, and adolescent outpatient counselor. In 2013 he left Gateway to begin working as the drug court counselor for the Marion Co. Court System. In 2015, Andy transitioned from drug court to begin a 4-year stint as the probation officer in Johnson County, IL. In 2019, Andy returned to the Gateway Foundation as a Professional Relations Manager, a position he continues to hold today. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University, where he also did some graduate work in the Rehabilitation Counseling program. He was a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor from 1997 until 2017 as well as earning certificates in DUI Evaluations and the ARISE Model of Interventions.
IPCSA Policy Regarding Virtual, COPE Approved Trainings
To receive training credit for virtual, COPE approved IPCSA sponsored trainings, each participant’s display name must contain their first name, last name and county of employment.
In those rare occasions where individual display names are not possible due to lack of equipment or department resources, multiple participants may use a single computer; however, a supervisor/CMO/Director must email association1969@ipcsa.org at least 48 hours PRIOR to the start of the training to provide a list of those individuals who will be on camera. The list shall contain the following information for each participant:
On the day of the training, ALL participants *must* be visible on camera, have access to the microphone, and actively participate in the training.
