TITLE: Superintendent of Juvenile Detention
POSITION SUMMARY: Manages the overall operations of the juvenile detention facility. This position plans, coordinates, and evaluates the work activities of staff who are engaged in the full range of custody services, including responsibility for safety, security, control, education, health care, recreation, religious, and related diagnostic services of minors in custody. The superintendent will also be responsible for the development of the detention center’s budget and goals and objectives for the facility. It is the responsibility of the superintendent to see the detention center is in compliance with all Administrative Office of Illinois Courts (AOIC) and Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) standards, guidelines, and regulations. This is an exempt position, providing guidance and expertise to staff and serving as the legal custodian to all minors held in secure detention on an on-call 24/7 basis.
QUALIFICATIONS: The eligible candidate must be certified for a supervisory position through the AOIC which includes at minimum a master’s degree in management, public administration, criminal justice, psychology, social work or related field and three or more years employment in probation/court services, at least two of which are at a supervisory level (at least one of the required years must be in juvenile detention/residential services); or a bachelor’s degree and five or more years employment in probation/court services, at least three of which are at a supervisory level (at least one of the required years must be in juvenile detention/residential services).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have prior supervisory experience in a juvenile detention facility and a familiarity with accreditation and PREA standards, AOIC and IDOC standards and regulations, and evidence based juvenile programming.
SALARY: $64,644 – $96,979
